What is a proof-of-play report?Data advertisers expect

Published 2026-10-11 · By Musashi Technology Industry Co., Ltd.

Advertisers want to know three things: which screen, which ad and when it played. If you can filter play counts by screen, video and period and export them as CSV, you have a report ready to send to advertisers.

What is a proof-of-play report?

When you sell ad space on digital signage, advertisers pay you to show their ads. A proof-of-play (PoP) report is the evidence that their ads actually ran as contracted.

Advertisers cannot visit every screen to verify this for themselves. PoP data is also used for campaign reconciliation and media audits.

For how to price ad slots, see How much does digital signage advertising cost?

Three things advertisers want to know

QuestionExampleWhy it matters
Which screenDowntown store, next to the checkoutTo confirm the ad ran at the contracted location
Which adA real estate open house videoEach screen rotates several ads, so plays must be broken down by ad
WhenSeptember 1–30To confirm the ad ran during the contracted period

If you can filter by all three, you can produce a report for any advertiser and any period in minutes.

Where manual reporting breaks down

Manual reporting works with a handful of screens, but it does not scale as you add locations. When the system handles the tallying, reporting effort stays flat as your network grows.

What the CSV contains

How to build a monthly report

A report for one advertiser takes three steps.

  1. Select the reporting period. Choose the date range you want to report on.
  2. Select the advertiser's videos. You can also filter by group or screen.
  3. Export to CSV and send. Open the file in a spreadsheet, check the totals and send it to the advertiser.

You can also export a separate file for each advertiser. Every export is logged with who exported it and when, so you can check later which numbers were sent.

FAQ

Can I create a separate file for each advertiser?

Yes. Filter by video or group before exporting to get one file per advertiser.

Can I see who exported a report?

Yes. Every export is logged with who exported it and when.
